1. Play for entertainment
Lottery games are games of chance and should be treated as entertainment, not as a way to earn income or solve financial difficulties. A lottery ticket is entertainment, not an income plan.
Participation does not guarantee a prize. Previous wins or losses do not affect the outcome of future lottery draws or instant games.
Players should only spend money they can afford to lose and should never use funds required for essential expenses such as housing, food, utilities, education or debt payments.
2. Age requirement
Lotora lottery products and services are available only to persons who are 18 years of age or older and otherwise eligible to participate under applicable Quebec requirements.
Lotora may use age and identity verification measures where required to prevent access by minors. A person under the age of 18 must not create an account, purchase lottery products or participate in Lotora games.
3. Know your limits
Players are encouraged to decide in advance how much money and time they are comfortable spending on lottery games.
Lotora provides responsible-play tools, including ways to set your limits, designed to help players maintain control over their participation. These may include spending limits, Reality check / time reminders, account activity information, temporary breaks and self-exclusion.
4. Spending limits
Players may use available account controls to establish limits on the amount they can spend on eligible Lotora services.
A spending limit should reflect the players personal entertainment budget and should not interfere with essential financial obligations. Where applicable, requests to increase a limit may be subject to a waiting period or other responsible-play safeguards.
5. Take a break
Players who want to temporarily stop participating may use the Take a Break feature.
During an active break, access to eligible gambling functionality may be restricted for the selected period. Taking a break is intended to provide players with time away from gambling without requiring permanent account closure.
6. Self-exclusion
Players who require a longer period away from gambling may use the Self-Exclusion option. Self-exclusion restricts access to eligible gambling services for the selected exclusion period.
Available periods may include 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or 5 years, depending on the options available through Lotora. Self-exclusion is intended to be a meaningful protective measure. Restrictions may therefore remain in effect until the selected period has ended, subject to applicable requirements.
7. Know how you play
Players are encouraged to regularly review their gambling activity and consider whether their participation remains within the limits they intended.
- Am I staying within the budget I planned?
- Am I playing for entertainment?
- Can I comfortably stop when I planned to?
- Would taking a break make sense right now?
8. Warning signs
Gambling may no longer be recreational if it begins to negatively affect a players finances, relationships, work, studies or wellbeing. Warning signs may include spending more than intended, attempting to recover previous losses by playing more, borrowing money to gamble, hiding gambling activity from others, feeling unable to stop or allowing gambling to interfere with everyday responsibilities.
9. Chasing losses
Lottery outcomes are based on chance. A previous loss does not increase the likelihood of winning a future game. Players should not increase their spending or frequency of play in an attempt to recover money previously lost. There is no strategy or pattern that can guarantee a winning lottery result.
10. Playing under the influence
Players should avoid making gambling decisions when their judgement may be impaired by alcohol, drugs, severe stress or other circumstances that could affect decision-making. Responsible participation requires players to be able to understand their choices and make informed decisions about their spending.
11. Player protection
Lotora may use reasonable measures designed to support responsible gambling and protect players. These measures may include age and identity verification, responsible-play information, account controls, spending limits, temporary restrictions, self-exclusion tools and access to support resources.
12. Support and assistance
Free and confidential gambling support is available to people who are concerned about their own gambling or the gambling behaviour of someone close to them.
Seeking support does not require a person to have a gambling disorder. Players may contact the service whenever they feel that gambling is becoming difficult to control or is negatively affecting their life.
13. Protecting minors
Lottery participation is restricted to persons aged 18 and over. Parents, guardians and other adults are encouraged not to leave lottery accounts, payment methods or authenticated devices accessible to minors. Account credentials should not be shared with another person.
14. Your responsibility
Players are responsible for making informed decisions about whether and how they participate in lottery games. Responsible play includes understanding the rules and odds of a game before participating, setting appropriate limits, monitoring spending and taking a break when gambling no longer feels recreational.
15. Changes to these Responsible Gambling Terms
Lotora may update these Responsible Gambling Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our services, responsible-play practices or applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The latest version will be published on this page, together with the date of the most recent update.
